Laser Gum Therapy/lanap® And LAPIP®

WHAT IS LANAP®?

The LANAP® procedure helps avoid the use of traditional surgery and sutures by utilizing special lasers and techniques to remove bacteria from periodontal pockets in the gum tissue.

What previously required surgery and stitches can now be accomplished through laser treatment. The LANAP® procedure is a minimally invasive procedure that uses laser technology to remove the diseased tissue and bacteria from the periodontal pockets. The laser is also used to help seal the pocket so that new germs cannot get back in. This treatment minimizes trauma to the gum tissue, providing a more comfortable procedure for the patient than traditional methods and significantly reducing healing time.

LANAP® KEEPS YOUR MOUTH HEALTHY

We recommend laser gum surgery, not only because it is more convenient for our patients but also because it promotes better bone health. Stimulating the bone with the laser encourages the regrowth of bone lost to periodontal disease. This allows us to save teeth that have become loose, avoiding the need for extraction and subsequent tooth restoration procedures. Treatment with LANAP® improves the health of your entire smile.

THE LASER GUM SURGERY ADVANTAGE

The Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP®) can treat a single tooth or a full mouth affected by gum disease. When compared with traditional gum surgery, LANAP® affords you the following benefits:

  • less discomfort and minimized swelling post-procedure.

  • encourages the regeneration of the bone that supports your teeth.

  • no incisions or sutures so there is little to no post-op pain.

  • little to no risk of gum recession.

  • faster healing and reduced downtime.

LAPIP® IS A PROVEN SOLUTION FOR PROBLEMS WITH DENTAL IMPLANTS

Dental implants are exceptional ways to restore the look of your natural smile. However, some patients experience dental problems such as periimplantitis, a condition that affects the hard and soft tissues surrounding the implant. Peri-implantitis can lead to serious deterioration of the teeth, gum and bone adjacent to the prosthetic tooth.

After peri-implantitis has been diagnosed, Dr. Prabakaran will take steps to try to reduce the inflammation in the gums surrounding the tooth implant. Laser gum surgery may be utilized to eliminate peri-implantitis. During the LAPIP® procedure, Dr. Prabakaran will decontaminate the surface of the implant with the laser light. This encourages bone regrowth and stabilizes the failing implant.

RISK FACTORS FOR GUM DISEASE

You may be familiar with the link between heart disease and gum disease but did you know untreated periodontal disease has been linked to many other serious health risks? Leaving your gum disease untreated should never be an option as gum disease has been linked to an increased risk for:

• Heart disease

• Uncontrolled diabetes

• Pancreatic cancer

• Pre-term labor

• Low birth weight babies

• Dementia and memory loss

• Cancer of the head or neck

• Stroke

Not treating gum disease can cause serious problems. When you schedule your consultation at PerioHealth, Dr. Prabakaran will recommend treatment for optimal health based on your periodontal needs.
